The ICHR-CAS club (abbreviated from Intangible Cultural Heritage Redesign - Creativity, Action, Service club) is a student-run organization founded by Tim Zhou, dedicated to the preservation and propagation of ICH (Intangible Cultural Heritage) with creative and innovative redesign under the ICHR mindset with emphasis on scientific inquiry, artistic and humanitarian sentiment, and especially insightful creativity. Specifically, we aim to evoke and excite creativity through investigation of a region's Intangible Cultural Heritage and its associated humanitarian environment, along with discovery of their chronological and spatial charisma (e.g. reminiscence of an imagery portraying prosperity in a time of history at a location). Then, utilize the creativity born from inquiry to provide charity services to the community, at the same time support and contribute to the inheritance and development of ICH through propagation of its charm and re-designation aligning with the modern era, respectively. Mentioned above, since the core values of ICHR adhere strongly to creativity, inquiry (action as investigation), and service, the term “ICHR” is directly linked to CAS (Creativity, Action, Service; a core requirement of the IB DP curriculum) and therefore written together.
In very simple words, ICHR-CAS is an organization that keeps and enhances value of ICH by designing them again with science, art, and creativity.
ICH are intellectual entities mostly without direct physical proof or object in existence, disseminated to many elements of live of people in its local vicinity. We integrate them into modern world using science and creativity to bestow new life to the ancient.
Despite the increasing popularity of ICH-related activities (especially in China) on media, they are still in great need of help. Other less-well-known ICH sites are still vulnerable to loss of culture in continuous change of demography and cultural composition.
The 5th IP (Intellectual Property) ICHR-CAS: The 5th category of intellectual property of man, an integration of science, culture and redesign organically to achieve unique effects in combination. As ICHR-CAS integrates Science, Culture, and Design in unprecedented ways vastly different from other four IPs (memorial, cultural, natural and intangible cultural heritage), it is an executor of this concept in action.
Fun Fact: The greenish alien figure shown above is a mascot of ICHR-CAS, designed for a fundraising event hosted by ICHR-CAS club.
